A study shows that sitting for 2 straight hours following a meal increased glycemic response by greater than 45%, in comparison to a combination of 40 minutes of very light intensity walking and 80 minutes of sitting.  This means that a person who sits for a long period after eating is under a greater acute metabolic risk than one who gets up and moves after a meal.
